Overview

The increasing data traffic and applications of wireless communication demands not only an evolution but a fully novel architectural design for the 5th generation of wireless communication. It is anticipated that 5G will provide ultra-high data rates to mobile phones and boost plethora of applications.

At Next-generation and Wireless Communications Laboratory we have a dedicated group engaged on cutting-edge research in 5G wireless communication under the supervision of Prof. Ozgur B. Akan. Our group targets to tackle problems and provide novel solutions that can help in pushing boundaries limiting 5th generation of wireless communication. We are actively exploring channel behaviors, novel modulation techniques, adaptive error controlling, optimization, efficient power algorithms etc.

Drawing

Increase in capacity

Demands for higher data rates predicts a 1000x growth in global mobile data traffic between 2010 and 2020

Drawing2

Increase in subscriptions

It is anticipated that mobile subscriptions will increase 10 – 100x, demanding access points to serve higher number devices

Drawing3

Decrease in latency

Tactile internet requires extremely low latency along with high reliability. End-to-end delay of 1 ms is required for the success of such services.
